Tadoba’s new name is Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve. The name changed because of the merging of two ranges the Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. This tiger reserve is located in Chandrapou District, state of Maharastra, India.
The amazing fact about this tiger reserve is that it is the oldest national park established in the year 1955. The area covered by this national park is 625.4 square km.
Earlier when Tadoba was established, it used to cover 116.55 square km in the year 1955, and the other range of Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve is Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary used to cover 508.85 square km in 1986 the year of its establishment.
Tadoba National Park was named after the god, “Tadoba” and “Taru”, which was well worshiped by the local Adivasi and it still contains the same value in the heart of the local community. It is believed that the god “Taru” who was the ruler of the village was killed in the notable encounter with the tiger.
So people who used to live there, build the temple which is dedicated to lord “Taru”. This temple is situated on the Shore of Tadoba Lake. ● The Place Which Was ruled By the Gonds Dynasty: The place was ruled by the Gonds dynasty. He was the 10th Gond ruler. The Gond tribe still lives in the neighboring areas.
● Tiger “The Protector of Land”: The Gond tribe believes that the tiger should be the king of the jungle. As tiger is the symbol of power, strength, and bravery. They believe this because the god “Taru” was killed when he had an encounter with a tiger. So their belief in this is really strong. ● Clockwise rotation is Sinful in Gond Culture: This belief is very strange and unique. The Gond tribe believes that anti-clock rotation works as a fortune for them but at the same time, clockwise rotation is considered evil and sinful. You will be surprised to know that when the people who belong to this place started using clocks, they even invented an anti-clock rotational clock. Now, that clock is only available during the Gond festival only.
